IndiGo Increases Fuel Surcharges on Flights Amid Rising ATF Costs

Date:

In response to a significant rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, IndiGo has announced an increase in fuel charges for both domestic and international flights. This adjustment will apply to bookings made from October 6, 2026, as the airline seeks to mitigate the impact of higher operating costs.

According to IndiGo, the ATF prices have seen a sharp increase, with the latest figures showing a month-on-month rise of over 14%. This surge in fuel costs is impacting the aviation sector broadly, prompting the airline to implement new charges as a partial offset while aiming to limit the impact on passengers.

For domestic flights, the revised charges will vary based on the distance of the journey. Flights up to 500 km will incur a fuel charge of ₹375, while longer flights exceeding 2,000 km will see charges rise to ₹1,300. Intermediate distances will face charges of ₹600 for up to 1,000 km, ₹900 for 1,001–1,500 km, and ₹1,150 for routes up to 2,000 km.

International flights will also experience increased fuel charges, particularly on routes to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. Passengers flying on routes up to 500 km will face a ₹1,000 charge, while longer SAARC routes will see a charge of ₹3,000. Additionally, flights to destinations in Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East, North Asia, and East Asia will incur a ₹5,500 charge, with routes to Africa and Europe seeing charges of ₹6,000 and ₹10,000, respectively.

IndiGo stated that the adjustment in fuel charges is intended to partially offset the rising operational expenses without placing undue burden on passengers. The airline reassured that it would continue to monitor both fuel prices and market conditions to make necessary adjustments in the future.
