Iran-India Economic Relations Strengthened Following Modi-Pezeshkian Talks

Date:

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met, underscoring the historic and deep-rooted ties between their countries. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, emphasized the significance Tehran places on its relationship with New Delhi, particularly in the realms of trade and economics.

The leaders’ discussions prominently featured the Chabahar Port, a critical point of cooperation that continues to strengthen economic links between India and Iran. This strategic port plays a pivotal role in facilitating regional trade. Beyond economic matters, Modi and Pezeshkian also addressed regional developments and ongoing efforts to foster enduring peace in their discussions.

India reiterated its dedication to enhancing its multifaceted relationship with Iran. Both leaders took the opportunity to deliberate on the broader regional situation and diplomatic strategies aimed at securing peace. The discussions reflect a mutual commitment to maintaining and expanding their longstanding partnership across various sectors.

The meeting between Modi and Pezeshkian did not go unnoticed by the international community. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the sovereign right of nations to pursue their foreign policy agendas. However, he cautioned against any actions that might facilitate Iran’s circumvention of U.S. sanctions, signaling the delicate balance countries must navigate in international relations.
