₹5 Lakh Funding Boost for 60 Rath Yatra Committees in West Bengal

Date:

In a historic move, the government of West Bengal has allocated financial support of ₹5 lakh each to 60 Rath Yatra committees throughout the state. This funding is intended to aid in the restoration and upkeep of the traditional chariots, many of which have significant historical value. This marks the first instance where the state has directly financed Rath Yatra festivities, reflecting its commitment to preserving cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari highlighted the urgent need for repairs on these centuries-old wooden chariots. He emphasized that the funds should be utilized effectively to ensure their restoration and preservation. This initiative underscores the state government’s proactive approach in maintaining cultural and religious traditions.

To enhance the experience of the devotees, helicopters are set to shower flower petals on participants of the 30-km Shravan Yatra in Tarakeshwar, located in the Hooghly district. Furthermore, the establishment of Seva Kendras at 75 fair locations has been announced. These centers will offer essential services such as medical aid, police assistance, and access to drinking water for the pilgrims, ensuring their well-being during the religious event.

Looking ahead, the government has plans to extend financial assistance to additional Rath Yatra committees, aiming to further support these cultural celebrations. Additionally, a significant investment of ₹1,000 crore over the next three years has been earmarked for the development of the Bengal Shaktipeeth Circuit. This project aims to enhance pilgrimage experiences, restore historic temples, and foster religious tourism, thereby boosting the state’s cultural and economic landscape.
