Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spotlighted Uttar Pradesh’s burgeoning defense manufacturing sector, emphasizing its role in bolstering India’s military capabilities. During the inauguration of the fourth UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah noted that the state’s production of BrahMos missiles is a significant achievement, citing it as a factor causing “sleepless nights” for Pakistan.
Shah’s remarks highlighted the robust investment flowing into all six nodes of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which includes Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur. He specifically mentioned the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow and the AK-203 assault rifles production in Amethi as key examples of the state’s growing defense manufacturing prowess.
Inaugurated in May 2025, the Lucknow BrahMos facility is dedicated to the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile. The first batch from this facility was completed and dispatched in October 2025, marking a significant milestone for the state’s defense sector. The facility was established with an investment of approximately ₹300 crore, covering nearly 200 acres, with the objective of enhancing indigenous defense production and supporting ancillary industries and skilled employment opportunities.
Shah also underscored the positive impact of Uttar Pradesh’s improving law-and-order environment and its expanding industrial base on attracting investments. He lauded the One District, One Product initiative, which aims to expand local industries and create more employment opportunities for the youth in the state.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers to converge and explore business opportunities. This event is part of a broader effort to position Uttar Pradesh as a pivotal player in India’s defense manufacturing landscape.
