The state government of Maharashtra has mandated the use of Aadhaar authentication for registering immovable property documents starting October 1. This initiative is designed to enhance identity verification and curb fraudulent activities in property transactions.
This requirement affects 63 types of registrations, including property sale, purchase, mortgage, and partition deeds. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that the decision aims to minimize issues such as impersonation, fake documentation, and unnecessary human intervention during the registration process.
For individuals who do not possess an Aadhaar number, the government has stipulated that they must provide evidence of having applied for Aadhaar along with other official identity documents. The provided information will be verified to ensure authenticity before completing the transaction.
Special considerations have been introduced for minors and specific eligible categories. Notably, children without an Aadhaar number will not be excluded from property registration benefits due to the absence of this identification.
The government emphasizes that this new system is intended to make the property registration process more secure, transparent, and efficient, thereby protecting the interests of property owners and stakeholders in Maharashtra.
