The push for enhanced air connectivity in India has gained momentum as the West Bengal government prepares to collaborate with the central government to establish a new airport in Purulia district. This development is part of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to make air travel accessible to the common citizens by improving regional connectivity.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the agreement to construct the airport will be officially signed on September 28. Preparatory work for the airport is reportedly complete, and the state government has already submitted an application for the necessary license. The planning stage has also seen input from representatives of the civil aviation authorities, ensuring that the project aligns with national aviation standards.
The proposed airport in Purulia is expected to significantly boost the district’s infrastructure, offering improved air travel options that could enhance tourism and facilitate industrial growth. The region’s potential for development has already attracted considerable interest, with the government actively seeking investments in key sectors such as defense, steel, cement, and solar energy.
Adhikari highlighted that Purulia could see investments amounting to ₹1 lakh crore over the coming year, signaling a transformative period for the district. The airport and the anticipated investments are part of a broader strategy to propel economic growth and development in West Bengal, aligning with national objectives to enhance regional connectivity and infrastructure.
