The internal discord within Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) has deepened following the defection of two Lok Sabha MPs, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar, to the faction led by Eknath Shinde. This shift marks a significant development in the ongoing rebellion, as a total of six MPs have now aligned themselves with the dissident group. Ashtikar explained his decision by citing the absence of development funds for his constituency and dissatisfaction with comments directed at rebel MPs. He emphasized that his allegiance to Shiv Sena’s ideology remains unchanged, clarifying that he has merely transitioned between factions to better address his constituents’ needs.
Similarly, Nimbalkar has confirmed his move to the Shinde-led faction but expressed his intention to continue consulting his constituency’s supporters before defining his political trajectory. He made it clear that despite the political turmoil, he will not speak against Uddhav Thackeray or Aaditya Thackeray. In contrast, Sanjay Raut, a leader from Shiv Sena (UBT), claimed that some of the rebel MPs are still in contact with the party, expressing concerns about possible backlash from voters in their constituencies. He added that the party remains open to dialogue with those willing to reconsider their stance.
In response to the defections, the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction has initiated disciplinary actions against the six MPs, issuing show-cause notices while warning of potential repercussions under the anti-defection law. The party is also contemplating appealing to the Lok Sabha Speaker to seek their disqualification if the MPs do not provide satisfactory responses. This internal strife has heightened political tensions across Maharashtra, with both factions engaging in a war of words.
Amidst these developments, the BJP has dismissed any allegations suggesting its involvement in motivating the defections. As the political landscape in Maharashtra becomes increasingly volatile, the unfolding events continue to generate significant attention and speculation.
