Delhi Allocates ₹13,800 Crore for Infrastructure Boost, Economic Development

The Delhi government is set to commence an extensive welfare and infrastructure initiative, Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, starting from September 17, as announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday. This month-long campaign is designed to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. Key activities will include the launch and foundation-laying of infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹13,800 crore throughout the national capital.

Integral to the campaign are various community-oriented programs such as blood donation camps, health check-ups for senior citizens, sanitation drives, and efforts to clean the Yamuna River. Additionally, registration camps for government welfare schemes will be established across all 70 assembly constituencies. A significant event will be the mega blood donation camp scheduled for September 17, which aims to collect 2,500 units. The government also plans to advocate for organ donation and organize health camps specifically catering to senior citizens.

A major focus of the initiative will be on projects related to the Yamuna, with an estimated investment of ₹8,000 crore. The campaign will also recognize the contributions of over 4,000 Anganwadi and ASHA workers. As part of engaging younger audiences, the programme will host events in about 5,000 schools, including painting and speech competitions, alongside an innovation challenge geared toward generating ideas for a developed India.

The infrastructure projects slated for initiation during the campaign are diverse, covering various sectors. This includes ₹8,000 crore allocated for Delhi Jal Board works, ₹2,800 crore for projects under the Public Works Department (PWD), ₹1,500 crore aimed at enhancing the power sector, ₹365 crore dedicated to irrigation and flood-control initiatives, and ₹77 crore for tourism-related projects.
